Floor week!

Well what a busy week it's been so far!

Steve the floor guy has been working for 4 days, and the floors are looking pretty good! There were a lot of stains that won't come out, and a few that appeared after sanding that we couldn't see before...but overall, it's an enormous improvement for the fraction of what laying any kind of new flooring would have cost us. Not to mention it feels divine underfoot!

Here are some snaps of the work in progress:

Here is Steve grinding the first layer.

This is the borax-like stuff they put down before the grinding... it's fluorescent yellow & orange.

This is the repair job on the patio door debacle... not perfect, but a definite improvement!

This is how they repair the shatter holes in the floor - they fill the hole with marble chips, and cover it with epoxy (STINKY!). Then they sand it back to the floor so it blends in. Pretty cool!

Here is the floor cleaned and ground down, but not polished.

This one is the kitchen floor polished, but not buffed. There are a lot of rust stains and a nice long crack across the floor in the kitchen, but I think it makes it look rustic :)

This is the view from the kitchen into the living room. The living room is finished, as it was buffed this morning :)

Here's the bedroom looking glorious!

While Steve has been busy on the floors, I have been busy with a list of my own! 1st on the list, bye-bye pink walls for good! I finished up the edges of the walls and then painted the window casings.

Brent stopped by on Monday to install the new ceiling fan in the den - it looks as good in there as it does in the bedroom!

Brent's latest exciting venture was installing the counter tops. Our kitchen installer Corey was supposed to come out and give him a hand, only he flaked and Brent had to do it alone. And he did! Our plan to extend the counter top into the doorway in order to create an eating area in the kitchen worked out perfectly :)

My biggest achievement this week (besides getting a little electric shock while changing a socket cover), was installing the tracks for the window covers in the bedroom! Woohoo!

We plan to start moving in on Sunday, moving at least the bigger items while we have the rented truck. Pretty exciting stuff!!

Looks great. Good call on the floors.

Be careful with that outlet that shocked you just putting the cover on. Unless you accidentally stuck the screwdriver right into the outlet, that could mean the outlet isn't grounded and electricity is traveling through the box, which would be bad and will eventually blow a breaker/fuse and/or spark/fire...
