We promise the final shots are coming!

Here is a sneak peek... but as you can see, our camera has gone to crap. No focus to speak of anymore :( However the replacement should be here by the end of the week, so we will do our round up post of the final product as soon as it arrives!

The biggest news here in Lake Worth this week is this:

Making it very clear that we (I'm dragging Brent along for the ride whether he wants to or not) are undoubtedly supporting Australia in the Olympics :)

I'm sure our neighbours are VERY confused, but hey, the guy down the street flies an original 13 state US flag...a little behind the times I say!

So the big work is winding down here at the house, and a lot of cosmetic stuff/finding places for everything is occurring .

Brent worked really hard on the bathroom this week. To be fair it was driving him nuts due to lack of storage (one small medicine cabinet - that's all it had), and he felt a need to fix is ASAP. He replaced the old light fixture for this sleek new one:

Then Brent picked up an old nightstand at World Thrift for $7.oo and refit it into a lovely new storage solution for under our wall sink :) I will lay claim to the delightful white paint job, but the brains of the op was definitely Brent!

We also picked up a new faucet/tap set on sale at Home Depot, I think it really matches the style of the bathroom.

Then, last of the bathroom projects for a few years (when we will probably redo it entirely) was putting in a second cabinet, so Brent and I don't have to share one tiny one.

My big accomplishment this week was to reupholster the great club chairs we picked up off the side of the street. I have never upholstered before, but I figured it couldn't be that hard...well once my trusty new nail gun/air stapler got hooked up to the compressor and going it WASN'T! Hey Dad, aren't you excited your little girl is learning how to use power tools?!

They really came out nicely if I don't say so myself! With all the materials, the two chairs probably cost around $20 each to redo...I can only imagine how much something like that could cost us retail :)

The last room to be painted got done this weekend too, the tiny second bathroom lost it's turquoise walls for a lovely shade of pale green, the same as the kitchen which also got finished up. Both are now looking gorgeous!

Our new hall light that Brent replaced - very cute.

After unpacking the entire den (it was overflowing with unpacked boxes!) we uncovered the Mezuzah that Ron & Robbie gave us when we bought the house.

It looks lovely :)

Brent started framing in the old a/c unit, so that we can hang something over the ugly thing :)

And here's what will run it! We bought a generator, as Brent's worry bump was stressing about impending hurricanes this week. Fine with me! It is a 5500w generator and will be able to run at least the fridge, a couple of lights and the a/c unit. Sounds incredibly helpful, seeing last time we went through a decent size storm, Brent & I went without power for 3 weeks. Never again.

productive weekend :)

We had a nice, productive weekend this week :) We also had our first guests in the house since it started to look like an actual home - it's great to get validation from others that what we are doing looks as good as we think it does!

Saturday morning Brent let me tag along on a trip to his current favourite store, Harbor Freight. I can see why he's so enamoured! It has everything you could need, and at cheeeeep prices. My mission for the weekend was to kick start all the furniture restoration we have lined up for ourselves - it seems every weekend we find another great piece of furniture that just needs a coat of paint/stain/sanding to be perfect. To do this job well, we wanted to see if we could find a relatively cheap spray gun attachment for the compressor we already have. We did! $15 for a great attachment :) It might not last forever, but it only needs to last a week or two to finish all my painting projects!

The first of my painting projects was a set of dressers we picked up at Faith Farm a couple of weeks ago. They were originally a pale olive green veneer and have the MOST gorgeous brass hardware - I think if they didn't have the hardware, we wouldn't have bought them!

I started off by cleaning and priming all the surfaces.

Then painted everything with a black semi gloss paint. It was tricky getting used the the sprayer, but I think it made a huge difference to the end product.

Brent spent most of his time on Saturday prepping the ceiling for the installation of the recessed lighting and the pendant light over the eat-in counter. The ugly fan was removed - finally!

The finished product looks fantastic! The kitchen is almost finished!

My next project was to repaint these club chairs. They were liberated from the last "big trash" day in Boca, I can't believe someone was throwing them away! They were in great shape as it was, but definitely not our style.

Now they are the same semi shiny black as the dresser, and their cushions will be recovered this week with some funky fabric I picked up at Ikea :)

Brent changed out the old, ugly hallway light fixture as well, it's now a nice looking mid-century fixture that actually matches the house.

He also worked on a new storage solution for the bathroom...we have almost none in there right now. Another thrift store find was a nightstand that Brent cut the top out of to fit around the pipes. The drawers were removed and the drawer fronts converted to a cupboard door, and we have an under-sink cabinet! :)
